Can I only come for part of the institute?
NEH Summer Scholars are required to attend all meetings and to engage fully as professionals in the work of the project. During the project’s tenure, they may not undertake teaching assignments or any other professional activities unrelated to their participation in the project. NEH Summer Scholars who, for any reason, do not complete the full tenure of the project will receive a reduced stipend.
Are UW educators eligible to apply?

Can non-university educators, educators from abroad, or graduate students apply?
The institute is designed primarily for teachers of American undergraduate students. Qualified independent scholars, graduate students, and those employed by museums, libraries, historical societies, and other organizations may be eligible to compete for a position in the institute provided they can effectively advance the teaching and research goals of the seminar or institute. How many Summer Institutes can I apply to?
You may apply to no more than two NEH Summer Programs (Seminars, Institutes, or Landmarks Workshops) per year, and you may attend only one. Once you accept a program’s offer, you may not withdraw your acceptance to switch to another NEH Summer Seminar , Institute, or Landmarks Workshop.
Can more than one person from my college/university apply?
I found out about your program after the deadline. Can I still apply?
Unfortunately, no. For us to consider your application, it must be submitted electronically by the deadline date (March 1, 2017), which is final.
How will I be notified if I am accepted?
All applicants, whether accepted, waitlisted, or rejected, will be informed by email on March 31, 2017 (date set by NEH). Accepted applicants will have until April 7, 2017 to accept or decline the offer.
If accepted, can my family and/or partner come along?
This program encourages interaction among a group of NEH scholars. While your family and/or partner may come to Seattle while you are participating in the Institute, the NEH does not allow nonparticipants to attend sessions or join the fieldtrips.
Will I have time to work on my own research projects?
Yes, we have built in unscheduled time into the program for most days to enable you to work on your own research projects.
Can I apply for/use scholarships money to help cover costs?
How will I recieve my stipend?
Two checks will be disbursed during the first and third weeks of the Seminar.
